Social Subjects

The Social Subjects Faculty covers the subject areas of Geography, History and Modern Studies. We also teach Politics, Environmental Science and Travel and Tourism.

The study of Geography introduces pupils to our changing world, its human interactions and physical processes. The study of Geography fosters positive life-long attitudes of environmental stewardship, sustainability and global citizenship.

History develops a coherent and balanced understanding of Scottish, British, European and world history. Through examining the past, pupils can better understand their own communities, their country and the wider world.

Modern Studies follows a multidisciplinary approach to develop pupil knowledge and understanding of political and social issues in local, Scottish, United Kingdom and international contexts. Politics sees the study of important political concepts and ideologies, the comparison of different political systems, and the evaluation of factors that impact on the electoral performance of political parties.

All Social Subjects develop skills of analysis, interpretation and literacy.
