Additional Support Needs
The Support Department assists pupils, groups and classes throughout the school.
Our Pupil Support Assistants play an important role in supporting young people on a short or long-term basis. They provide a range of supports to enable pupils to access learning at an appropriate level. The PSA team work in classes, in support rooms, in our Nurture Provision and the The Zone. Our PSAs are dedicated to helping our young people achieve in every way they can.
Our Pupil Support Teachers are aligned to house teams and undertake a range of assessments to help identify barriers to learning and identify the best ways to support young people. They create Pupil Support Overviews, key learning documents shared with all subject teachers and additionally act as links for young people between guidance staff and class teachers. Pupil Support Teachers deliver our Outreach programme, our Targeted Attainment programme Rise To Five, they work with pupils needing support to engage in classes and deliver small group support sessions for literacy and numeracy. Additionally support teachers and staff run our Nurture Provision. Our PSTs also deliver classes providing access to wider accreditation courses, such as Rural Skills, our King’s Trust Steps for Work and Hospitality courses and ESOL qualifications. Support teachers are available to liaise with pupils and homes and try to ensure all our pupils can achieve at a level that challenges them. Support teachers also offer supported columns for some senior years. These allow pupils to achieve outwith their established timetable in other subjects under the guidance of experienced staff.
